Upcoming Webinar: LGBT Programming in the Public History Field

CreativeLearningFactoryLogoOn Thursday, October 16, 2014, 2:00-3:30 eastern daylight time, I will be partnering with the Creative Learning Factory to offer a webinar entitled, “LGBT Programming in the Public History Field.”

Creative Learning Factory is an Ohio-based organization offering professional development for K-12 teachers and museum professionals. Their expertise centers around the humanities, and they have a special knack for distance learning.

My upcoming workshop will be part of the group’s museum educator series. This webinar will provide an introduction to planning LGBT history programming at museums and historic sites. I’ll be using a variety of case studies and success stories, and my focus will be on the first steps of planning LGBT interpretive efforts:

  • deciding if the time is right for your organization to interpret LGBT history
  • approaching the sources
  • conceptualizing your narrative
  • trust-building.

And participants will get to hear the insight of an additional voice from the field. Stacia Kuceyeski, CEO of Creative Learning Factory, has also served as the staff liaison between the Ohio Historical Society (now Ohio History Connection) and the Gay Ohio History Initiative, an effort to collect and preserve the documents and artifacts of Ohio’s LGBT history. She’ll be joining me to offer her own experiences and perspectives.

While offering some new content, the workshop also provides a sneak preview of my forthcoming book Interpreting LGBT History at Museums and Historic Sites (due out in December 2014). The webinar only costs $20, and you can register here.
